There are resources and services out there to help you navigate your new normal, whether just for you, your partner and you, or for your whole family.

Helpful services that may be used to navigate your journey

You can ask you doctor or nurse navigator to help you find some of the following services:

Couples counselLing

You and your partner can work with specialists who have experience in this subject, and can help you discuss problems, express and address your needs, and find ways of coping together. It may also include issues related to sex and intimacy.

Faith or spiritual counselling

Some clergy members are trained to help you cope with cancer concerns. Feeling alone, fearing death, searching for meaning, and doubts about faith are all common issues that you can seek guidance for.

Family support programs

Your family can be actively involved in your healing process. You and your family members can take part in therapy sessions as a group to deal with the issues that have come up during your diagnosis and treatment.

Genetic counseling

Specialists can suggest that you have genetic testing for cancer and guide you on how to deal with the results of those tests. It can be really helpful for you and for your family’s future health.

Mental health professionals can help you manage and process your feelings, which can include difficult emotions like anger, sadness, as well as concern for your future.

Nutritionists/Dietitians

They can help you with gaining or losing weight, as well as understanding nutrition better and how to eat what’s best for your body and your health.

Get help regaining, developing, and building skills that are important for your day-to-day life. This can include daily activities like bathing, feeding yourself and dressing after cancer treatment.

The more support you have when you quit smoking, the better your chance of success. Your doctor, nurse, or social worker can help you to find available programs.

Speech therapists are specialists who can evaluate and treat any speech, language, or swallowing problems you might experience after treatment.
