Welcome box
Once you've done your maternity pre-admission, you can collect a welcome box
from the hospital’s reception. It is filled with sample products, a 'back to
baby basics' book, with information on pregnancy, delivery, breastfeeding and
postnatal care. You can also use the box to start collecting and storing
memories for your baby.

4D ultrasound
The ultrasound captures a real life image of your unborn baby in full colour.
You should book the 4D ultrasound once you’ve done your maternity pre-admission
by 22 weeks of pregnancy, to ensure an appointment is available for between 28
and 31 weeks of pregnancy. The hospital’s reception staff will assist you with
arrangements. The 4D ultrasound is not a diagnostic scan nor is it used to
confirm the sex of your baby.

Netcare baby gift bag
The handy bag contains a Netcare baby beanie, a baby on board sticker, various
products including a full pack of nappies, baby wet wipes, baby toiletries and
samples, as well as ample information to assist you on your new journey.

First baby immunisations at the hospital
With your consent, your baby’s first immunisations (BCG and polio) will be
administered before their discharge from hospital to protect their health and
wellbeing.

Newborn hearing screening
Your newborn baby’s hearing will be screened in hospital by an audiologist.
Early detection of hearing problems is important to prevent developmental delays
for your baby.

Assistance with your baby's birth registration
Department of Home Affairs representatives are based at certain of our maternity
units, and they will assist you with your baby's birth registration. In the
absence of Home Affairs representatives at some of our hospitals, we will
endeavour to assist you with details of companies offering this service.

First baby check up at two weeks
Your baby’s developmental milestones and weight will be assessed at a mother and
baby wellness clinic contracted to Netcare to provide this service. These
clinics are usually situated at or near Netcare hospitals with maternity units.
