Netcare Cuyler Hospital in Uitenhage has completed a number of upgrades in recent months, “so that the facility can meet the growing needs of the community and provide patients with comprehensive quality healthcare services into the future”.

This is according to the hospital general manager, Victor Mutle, who says that the improvements, which include a substantially upgraded theatre complex and the recently opened 24-hour emergency department, are part of a modernisation programme at the hospital.

“We are always looking at ways to upgrade our facilities and expand our services in order to ensure that Netcare Cuyler Hospital provide the highest levels of service to the rapidly growing and developing Uitenhage and Despatch communities,” says Mutle.

"Caring for patients from as far afield as Graaff Reinet and Kirkwood, we noted a growing demand from the community for emergency services at the hospital. We consequently decided to expand our emergency department, which has been providing the community with access to a seven day a week 24-hour emergency services since 1 August 2017."

In addition, the theatre complex at Netcare Cuyler Hospital has been completely modernised and is now in full use. The upgrades to the theatre complex include new energy efficient air-conditioning systems as well as new theatre control panels for the comfort of patients and improved efficiencies.

"We have also completely revamped the joineries and installed new flooring and ceilings. A new, more energy efficient hot water system has also been incorporated with the air-conditioning refrigeration system," notes Mutle.

The 163-bed Netcare Cuyler Hospital, which offers most disciplines and is equipped with modern technology, is supported by specialists and trained nursing staff. "The hospital places an emphasis on providing quality care to our valued patients," he adds.

"With the revamped theatre complex and expanded emergency department service, we are now well positioned to serve this growing community," concludes Mutle.
