“Netcare is pleased to announce that the first stage of expansions at Netcare Ferncrest Hospital in Rustenburg, are now complete. The upgrades to the facility will ensure that the hospital can continue meeting the needs for highly specialised healthcare services of the ever-growing population of the North West Province.”
This is according to hospital’s general manager, Dr Naveen Jumna, who adds, “Netcare is committed to providing world-class healthcare to all of its patients, and these expansions and upgrades help us achieve those goals.”
One of the improvements to the hospital is the newly opened, dedicated cardiothoracic theatre and catheterisation laboratory, where heart conditions can be diagnosed and treated using state-of-the-art, new 3D-imaging technology, meaning that a range of heart procedures can now be performed. These include coronary angiograms, stent insertions, cardiac bypass surgery, open-heart surgery and valve replacement procedures. “There is no other hospital in the province offering such comprehensive and specialised cardiac services,” adds Dr Jumna.
The hospital will also be able to accommodate more seriously ill patients as an additional ten intensive care unit (ICU) beds and ten high care beds have been added. Ten new doctors’ consulting suites and three new sessional doctors’ suites have also been opened to allow for more specialists to practise at the hospital and underpin its rapidly expanding service offering. In addition, the central sterile supply department (CSSD) has been considerably enhanced and expanded.
The second stage of the renovations, which will be completed in September, will see the addition of a new 36-bed medical ward. Substantial upgrades to two surgical wards, the existing adult ICU, the neonatal ICU and the accident and emergency ward will be ready in early 2016. Dr Jumna explains that these expansions and upgrades are part of a proactive and ongoing effort to maintain the delivery of first-class patient treatment at the facility.
As part of the overall enhancements of the hospital a new, aesthetically pleasing entrance will also be built while provision will be made for additional parking facilities to accommodate more patients and visitors to the hospital. These are due to be completed in 2016.
“These new facilities bring access to quality healthcare to more people in the region. Individuals in the community will benefit, as they no longer have to travel outside of the province to obtain highly specialised medical services. Netcare Ferncrest Hospital will be offering all of the important specialisations right here in Rustenburg,” he concludes.
