The management, staff and doctors at Netcare Sunward Park Hospital have expressed deep sadness at the passing of specialist urologist Dr Petrus Steyn, who served the Netcare Sunward Park Hospital community since 2007, and who sadly passed away on the morning of 13 June.
“Dr Steyn was very much a part of the family here, having spent the last 16 years dedicating himself to caring for his patients at our hospital,” notes Greg Mokgoatlheng, general manager at the facility.

The news of his passing has struck a sorrowful chord among colleagues and staff, with many noting his warm personality, which will be sorely missed, and the spirit of joy and adventure with which he approached life.
Born in Kimberley in January 1959, Dr Petrus Steyn grew up in the well known diamond mining town and went on to obtain his medical degree at the University of the Orange Free State, as it was then called. Dr Steyn started out as a general practitioner in Durban in the early 90s before specialising as a urologist, after which he settled in Johannesburg and began practising at Netcare Sunward Park Hospital.
Dr Steyn had a passion for music and played several instruments, though his greatest hobbies – woodwork and painting – saw him spending hours poring over his latest projects in his workshop. He was known never to say no to a round of golf and took great pleasure in a good rugby match and a braai.
Dr Steyn leaves behind his family, who always came first – his wife, Adri, their three children Nicola, Douw and Adriaan and his siblings, brother Willie and sisters Rykie and Marda.

“We wish to express our most heartfelt condolences go to the family of Dr Steyn, a much beloved man who will always be remembered here among our hospital community and by his friends and family. His loved ones are in our thoughts and prayers and we wish them much strength at this difficult time,” concluded Mokgoatlheng.
