After serving the Margate and surrounding communities for no less than 22 years, specialist physician Dr Jaap Steyn is relocating to the Howick Hospital in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
“During his tenure at Netcare Margate Hospital Dr Steyn was the chairman of the facility’s physicians advisory board, headed up the stroke committee and was also a member of the COVID-19 clinical committee during the past two years,” says Rob Ferreira, hospital manager of Netcare Margate Hospital.
“Dr Steyn was the primary physician involved in treating renal care patients at the National Renal Care (NRC) unit at Netcare Margate Hospital since 1999. The busy NRC unit operates seven days a week. He served on various hospital committees here over the years, and his remarkable career in the medical field spans more than 30 years.”

“It has been a privilege and most reassuring to have had someone of Dr Steyn’s calibre and experience taking responsibility for the treatment and care of our patients, many of whom were admitted from our emergency department as critical patients to our ICU and high care units as long-term admissions,” Ferreira says.
“We wish Dr Steyn all the best for this next chapter in his career. He will be sorely missed by the management and nursing staff here as well as by the communities whom he served with such great professionalism, a calm demeanour and absolute dedication to his profession. The people of Howick can count themselves lucky to have Dr Steyn joining their community.
“And while we are sad to see our esteemed colleague go, we are at the same time pleased to offer a warm welcome to Dr Sipho Duncan Ntshalintshali, who joined Netcare Margate Hospital on 1 November 2021. He has a true passion for helping others, which is what led to him pursuing a career in medicine and to practising as a specialist physician since 2018,” comments Ferreira.
Dr Ntshalintshali brings with him a wealth of knowledge and impeccable credentials. In addition to obtaining a master's degree in internal medicine, and a fellowship in internal medicine and rheumatology from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA), he also holds an MPhil degree in rheumatology from the Stellenbosch University.
In 2019, he completed an advanced course in clinical immunology at Harvard University in collaboration with the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS) in the US. Recently Dr Ntshalintshali also completed a two-year course in rheumatic and musculoskeletal disease with the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR).
“We are delighted to welcome Dr Ntshalintshali as part of the Netcare Margate Hospital family and look forward to watching him grow from strength to strength as we continue to serve our local community,” concludes Ferreira.
