Netcare hospitals and emergency medical services provider recognised for service excellence

Staff’s commitment to Netcare values pays off

Wednesday, December 4 2013

Three Netcare hospitals situated in major South African cities recently received top honours and a strong vote of confidence from the communities they serve. In Durban, Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital came first for the fourth consecutive year in the best hospital category of the Daily News Readers’ Choice, Your Choice 2013 Awards. In Pretoria, Netcare Pretoria East Hospital was voted best hospital by readers of the Pretoria Rekord newspaper, while Netcare Linksfield Hospital in Johannesburg won The Star 2013 Readers’ Choice, Best of the Best Award.

Emergency Medical Services provider, Netcare 911, also received recognition for service excellence. The company was voted best emergency medical services provider by the readers of The Star in the annual Readers’ Choice Best of the Best awards organised by Independent Newspapers Gauteng.

Thirteen Netcare hospitals furthermore received PMR.africa awards in the private hospitals category following surveys conducted by consulting, research and risk management services company, PMR.africa in 2013. Diamond Arrow awards, the highest rating, went to Netcare N17, Netcare Margate, Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial and Netcare Greenacres hospitals. Golden Arrow awards were secured by Netcare Sunward Park, Netcare Ferncrest and Netcare Unitas hospitals. Silver arrow awards were won by Netcare St Augustine’s, Netcare Pretoria East and Netcare Milpark hospitals while Netcare Umhlanga, Netcare Linmed and Netcare Union hospitals received Bronze Arrow awards.

Commenting on these accolades, Jacques du Plessis, managing director of the Netcare hospital division says, “A company’s longevity requires many things, most critically that customers’ expectations are met. That is why this strong vote of confidence is so meaningful. Winning these awards is a tribute to the quality of care delivered at Netcare facilities countrywide and serves as acknowledgement of the skill and dedication of the doctors, nurses, pharmacists and support staff who care for our patients.

“These awards serve as affirmation that we are not simply paying lip service to our values of care, dignity, participation, truth and passion but that these are entrenched in the actions and interventions we have with our patients, their loved ones, the wider communities we serve, fellow colleagues and other stakeholders,” he says.

According to Noeleen Phillipson, managing director of Netcare 911, healthcare is probably the most difficult sector within the services industry with respect to meeting the needs of clients and building a strong, positive brand. “Within the healthcare environment you deal with people’s lives in a more profound manner than you would in any other sector. Each day our paramedics and emergency operations centre staff are confronted by traumatic situations which are intensely emotional for those involved, sharing in moments of great joy but also in instances of immense sadness and loss. By genuinely living the Netcare values, our staff strive to care for each and every individual we serve with compassion, dignity and respect,” she concluded.
