Much-loved hospital manager will be sorely missed

Louis was the heart of Netcare St Anne’s Hospital

Thursday, October 20 2022

With deepest sadness, Netcare is mourning the loss of general manager of Netcare St Anne’s Hospital, Louis Joubert, who passed away at the age of 55 on Tuesday 11th October 2022.

“We again offer our heartfelt condolences to Louis’ wife Leigh-Anne, and their children, Gabi and Alexi. We hold them in our hearts and wish them every strength,” says Sara Nayager, Netcare’s regional general manager – KwaZulu-Natal.

“Louis was the life, heart, and soul of Netcare St Anne’s Hospital since he was appointed as general manager some 14 years ago. The compassion and warmth that he brought to every interaction, and his caring leadership style will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know or work with him.

“Louis loved people and was a dedicated family man. He exuded personality and had the biggest smile, bluest eyes, and the loudest laugh. He was the most talkative person, always having the first and the last word in our close-knit regional team. He will be very sorely missed,” Nayager says.

Joubert matriculated from Pietersburg High School and then completed a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree in Accounting and Business Management. He spent over 20 years in management in private healthcare and healthcare funding, joining Netcare St Annes Hospital in August 2008.

Joubert was a keen golfer and earlier this year he and Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital manager Heinrich Venter came up with the idea of a doctors’ golf day between the two hospitals, to be known as ‘The Challenge of the Saints’ namely Netcare St Augustine’s versus Netcare St Anne’s hospitals.

“We are devastated by his loss and so thankful to have shared so many precious years together, serving on one team. Louis shaped Netcare St Anne’s Hospital as we know it today, and his contribution leaves a legacy of great caring and compassion. In Louis’ memory, we intend to organise the Challenge of the Saints Golf Day, as he planned. Louis has left an indelible mark on our lives, and he will forever live in our hearts.”

“Louis was a man of great stature, humility, care, optimism and pure happiness. He would want us to celebrate the times we shared and take forward the lessons we learnt together,” adds Sharon Singh, a fellow management colleague who has worked with Joubert at Netcare St Anne’s Hospital for more than a decade.

A ceremony to celebrate Joubert’s life will be held from 9am to 10am on Friday, 21 October 2022, at Netcare St Anne’s Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11am at All Saints Church in Pietermaritzburg, followed by tea at Victoria Country Club.
