Mande Toubkin, general manager: emergency, trauma, transplant and corporate social investment at Netcare, is the recipient of this year’s Forum for Professional Nurse Leaders (FPNL) Leadership Excellence Award for her outstanding contribution to leadership within the nursing profession in South Africa.

Annelie Meiring, chairperson of the FPNL, says, “Toubkin’s leadership role in emergency and trauma services in South Africa and abroad, as well as her enthusiasm and willingness to voluntarily contribute to activities other than her day-to-day job, are some of the considerations that prompted the organisation to honour her with the prestigious award.”

Commenting on Toubkin’s award, Peter Warrener, group human resources director at Netcare, says, “Toubkin is a highly valued member of the Netcare family and we are privileged to have one of our very own honoured with this esteemed accolade. Not only does Toubkin play a crucial leadership role in Netcare’s emergency and trauma services, including our sexual assault management programme, she also heads our transplant and disaster management programmes and our corporate social investment initiatives which are channeled through the Netcare Foundation with passion and professionalism.”

The FPNL, which was founded in 1996, is an organisation which is committed to the development of South African nurses through leadership interventions that foster cooperation and empowerment across all sectors of the nursing profession.

One of the main tenets of the FPNL is to foster an alliance between the public and private sectors, with the aim of implementing solutions that will benefit nursing and promote the delivery of world-class healthcare to all South Africans. “Toubkin has been influential in developing a strong foundation for valued partnerships with public and private sector bodies such as academic hospitals, universities and government departments,” states Warrener.

“South Africa needs more healthcare professionals of Toubkin’s caliber. She is recognised as a role model among her colleagues, and also in the healthcare sector and the community. She motivates and leads with humility and tireless dedication. Her specialised knowledge, integrity, passion and empathy as well as her willingness to mentor and support are some of the qualities which make her a worthy recipient of this prestigious award,” he concludes.
